How do I put it politely? She seemed ignorant, pretentious and power hungry. Her son was found dead three days ago... 19 years old. Where was she when he needed her support? What did she do when the event 201 was made into pseudo reality that made life unbearable for children and teenagers, as well as chronically ill or for other reasons vulnerable individuals? Did she side with the truth or did she practice censorship of truth? God Almighty only knows why her son died.

I might add that in Charles Dowding’s garden in England he has carried out trials for the last ten years comparing dig plots to no dig plots, both having the same quantity of compost and growing exactly the same plants and the no dig plots consistently grow more produce by weight than plots which have been dug. However, I think his dug plots are single dug not double dug.

it is interesting that people like Charles Dowding and Richard Spencer, both world renowned horticulturists, follow a “no dig” approach to their businesses, although I believe that Richard Spencer did use a broad fork on his heavily compacted ground when he first took over his small farm.

Having been born at just under 70 degrees north around the winter solstice, and having lived well above the Arctic Circle until the age of 17, daylight has never quite affected me the way it is supposed to. Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder is a way of life for me, and now that I no longer need to conform to the societal standards to get kids to school or myself to work, it turns out that my internal day and night combine to just over 28 hours (of which at least two are longer sleep, it seems that around 10 hours of sleep is ideal for me). I have never been able to nap, once I fall asleep (a process that tends to take about an hour from getting into a comfortable position in bed) my body is not at all pleased to be woken up again before having passed at least 9 hours in light sleep. Yes, sleep quality is poor, even as a teenager I was very easy to awaken, and motherhood naturally enhanced that quality, and over the years pain has worsened it even more. Over the years, I have tried everything to get a more normal circadian rhythm, but lately I have come to understand that my inborn Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder combined with Childhood Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder to never allow the brain to shut off "alarm state". Living in what the brain perceives as mortal danger constantly would have to negatively impact Circadian rhythms, so if anyone comes across a way to finally turn off the state of alarm, I would be very grateful! (I have only ever rarely, and for short periods of time, been in real mortal danger, but grew up without a secure sense of belonging to parts of my family and then became ostracized in school, so the brain was flooded with signals that this child lacked protection from the social structure and therefore risked lack of survival resources at any moment)

We don't have to look very far to find examples of policing which unjustly attack people's survival in the name of preserving the power of capital here in Santa Cruz. On the very street that UCSC IAS resides there are unhoused folks who park and live in RVs, buses, and other vehicles, who the city is existentially threatening with discriminatory laws like the Oversized Vehicle Ordinance or specific displacement policies like restriping of parking spaces to be too small for larger vehicles. Folks at IAS have a real opportunity to put their money where their mouth is and reject policing of Santa Cruz's most over-policed and marginalized local community, those living in tents and vehicles. I have reached out many times and felt a kind of resistance to speak up and act on this issue which requires abolitionist voices-- this issue which is quite literally in their own backyard. It deeply saddens me that such prolific names in abolition seem so unmoved by this call to action. I hope this changes.

Professor Bettina Aptheker's Introduction to Feminism at UCSC ( Fall 1986) was a truly transformative experience. Her brilliant intellect and unique teaching approach opened my eyes, reshaping how I perceive the world and experience time itself. It was more than a class; it was a profound paradigm shift that equipped me with invaluable tools for navigating life's complexities. Heartfelt congratulations, Professor Aptheker, on your well-deserved recognition. Your impact is immeasurable, and your legacy endures in the minds you've enlightened. - Sean Atha (Stevenson 1990)

With all due respect..I’m very skeptical of your study. In particular that breeding pairs care for the offsprings. If that were the case it would be millions of those damsels in reefs. Think about 1000+ eggs per spawn every 7-10 days. Moreover, spawning pairs always prioritize spawning and tending to the eggs. They can’t “care” for already hatched fry. Very unlikely what you described

This is the Rob Jobs version of tell me you’re not a lawyer without telling me you’re not a lawyer. The logic here is laughable. Just throw all criminals on a deserted island- just visualize that sunset over the waves - problem solved. Maybe if they got the inside walls of a prison, all the criminals will magically become angel law abiding citizens. Is this really banana slug caliber education?
